Through it we may praise God and express our love for Him, as well as beseech Him for assistance. The capacity to meditate is a distinguishing feature of the human being. Devotional gatherings are collective spaces where this occurs.
In Ipswich, friends and families unite with one another in prayer and collective spiritual upliftment. There are no rituals; no one individual has any special role. Meetings consist largely of prayers and passages either put to song or read from all sacred Religious text in an informal yet respectful atmosphere. A spirit of communal worship and inspiration is generated by these simple gatherings, and this spirit begins to permeate the community’s collective endeavors.
These Gatherings occur in both family homes or as larger organized events. Below are just two examples of Devotionals that occur in Ipswich.
“Prayer is a ladder by which everyone may ascend to Heaven”
This was initiated by a local family in Ripley aimed at bringing together peoples of all backgrounds residing in Ipswich. It provides a space that unites in a tranquil environment the opportunity to reflect on inspiring themes and common threads that tie us all together. It features music, audio-visual pieces and readings from faiths and philosophers, authors, leaders and indigenous cultures, from all over the world. The purpose is to inspire us to transform our lives, our neighbourhoods and communities, with actions that promote the unity and betterment of society.
This family gathering occurs every week within the family home between its members. It brings about family solidarity and cohesion. After attending a few devotionals and going through Ruhi books they understood that devotionals can are something as simple as getting together as a family praying and sharing the Baha’i writings.
As a family, they began getting together and praying. Their daughter began to memorize Bahai prayers. She is also beginning to understand that prayers are a time when we are talking to our Creator. It is a time of sitting down reverently. The effect on the adults has been positive too. Adults now make attempts to say daily prayers together.
